Plymouth, Massachusetts, gave me one of those days where history, ocean views, and a ridiculous number of photos all came together.

Plymouth Rock
We started at Plymouth Rock, famously marked with “LANDING PLACE OF THE PILGRIMS 1620.” It’s one of those places you’ve heard about forever, so standing there in person was pretty cool. Of course, I took pictures. Because apparently, I have never met a photo opportunity I didn’t like.

Whale Watching
But then came the part of the day that quickly became one of my favorites: whale watching ! And let me just say—getting out on the water was COLD. I knew we were going on a boat. I knew we were going into the ocean. It was summer. Somehow, my brain decided that meant summer = warm. Nope.
I was VERY glad I brought my sweatshirt, because the temperature on that boat was a whole different experience once we were out on the water. So if you’re heading out whale watching, learn from me: bring the damn coat. Even in summer. (Yes I took it off for the pictures LOL)

And then we started seeing whales. Suddenly, I didn’t care that I was freezing. I took more pictures than normal that day, which is saying something because I already take more pictures than most people. There was just something about watching these huge animals come up out of the water that made me want to photograph EVERYTHING.
But then we got an unexpected bonus—a rainbow appearing above the whales! Apparently a normal thing for whales but I take it as a bonus because I didn’t know LOL.
My absolute favorites? The whale tails. There is something about that moment when a whale dives and its tail comes up out of the water and that is just freaking amazing. And, of course, I had my camera ready because I was determined to capture as many as I could. Some photos were great. Some were probably more “Yep, that’s definitely a whale!” than award-winning photography.
But honestly? I didn’t care. I was there. I was on the ocean. I was watching whales in the wild. And I was having one of my favorite days of the trip.

A Perfect Combination of History, Adventure and Photography
From standing at Plymouth Rock and thinking about the history that happened here to being out on the water watching whales, Plymouth ended up being the perfect combination of history, adventure, and photography. And yes, I took approximately eleventy-billion pictures. (Maybe not that many but close LOL)
Would I do it again? Absolutely. I’d just bring a warmer coat next time.
