Sometimes you take a trip and come home with beautiful pictures, wonderful memories, and a few moments where you have to ask yourself “What the actual f just happened?” Yep. That was Mystic, Connecticut. And honestly? I loved it.

There was historical places, boats, shopping, sea creatures, a parrot, questionable parking situations, and at least one sign that had the perfect amount of sass. Basically, it had everything I apparently need for a successful trip.
Mystic Seaport Museum
Our first stop was the Mystic Seaport Museum, and there was a LOT to see. We spent time walking around outside, exploring the grounds, getting on ships, and wandering through multiple indoor exhibits filled with boats, maritime history, and all kinds of historic stuff. I loved being able to get on some of the ships instead of just standing there looking at them. There was something about walking around and seeing everything up close that made the history feel much more real.

But naturally, I found something completely unrelated to boats that became one of my favorite things. There was a family picture where the man looked like he was petting something. And I could NOT figure out what the hell he was petting. Was it an animal? Was it some kind of object? I have questions. Unfortunately, I did not get the answers. And honestly, I’m still thinking about it. Because apparently I can visit a historic maritime museum and my brain will go: “Yes, the ships are interesting. But WTF is that guy petting?”

Shopping… and Our Parking Apparently Made Us Shit Sassholes?
After the museum, we went shopping. And shopping was fun. The parking situation? Well…Our parking made us Shit Sassholes. I’m not even sure how else to explain it. Mystic may have historic ships, charming shops, and beautiful scenery, but apparently it also brought out our inner Shit Sassholes in parking (the below note was left on the windshield LOL).

Mystic Aquarium
Then came one of my favorite stops: Mystic Aquarium
One of the things I really liked about the aquarium was that it wasn’t just an indoor experience. There were indoor AND outdoor areas, so you could wander around and see all kinds of things. And, of course, they had some of my favorites. Seahorses, Jellyfish, Penguins. Give me cute animals, weird sea creatures, and a camera and I’m good.
But then Mystic Aquarium gave me something I wasn’t expecting. A sassy sign. Apparently even the aquarium understands my personality. I mean, I’m here for the animals……but I’m staying for the sass.

More Shopping… Because Apparently We Weren’t Done Yet
Of course we went shopping again. Because apparently visiting a new place means I need to wander through the shops and see what kind of trouble I can find. And this shopping adventure had an unexpected bonus. WE MET A PARROT. And not only did we meet a parrot…we got to HOLD the parrot. How could I possibly say no to that?

Mystic Was Definitely Worth the Trip
Mystic, Connecticut ended up being one of those places where we packed a lot into the trip without it feeling like we were just checking things off a list. We explored history at the Mystic Seaport Museum. We wandered through shops. We dealt with questionable parking that apparently turned us into Shit Sassholes. We visited the Mystic Aquarium and saw seahorses, jellyfish, penguins, and plenty of other creatures. We found a sassy sign. And we got to hold a parrot.
So yeah…If you are ever in Connecticut, I would highly recommend Mystic. Come for the history. Stay for the animals. Shop until you find something you absolutely don’t need. Keep your eyes open for random weirdness. And if you happen to see a mysterious historic photograph where a man appears to be petting something…
PLEASE FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL HE WAS PETTING.
