A Faceless Portrait

A Faceless Portrait - My Story
A Faceless Portrait – My Story

A Faceless Portrait.

I created this image as part of the Dogwood 52 photo challenge, for the week 7 theme “Portrait: Faceless” with a description of “Tell someone’s story without showing their face”.

I was not feeling terribly inspired, and it didn’t have to be a selfie, but in order to get it over with and to stay caught up with the challenge I finally impulsively went outside with a remote and took this image of myself with three things I love.   My hiking boots, my camera and my dog, what could be better than that??

I wanted my DSLR in the shot so I connected my Olympus Stylus 1 to be controlled by my iPhone, set it on the ground, and walked to where Maizie and I were both in the frame. I had some difficulty keeping her there, she kept wrapping around my legs or sitting down facing away from the camera so finally I asked my Alex to get Maizie’s attention.  Alex jumped around flapping her arms like a lunatic for me to get this shot.  (Best assistant EVER, by the way)

It’s not perfect photographically speaking – I would have gotten better quality with my DSLR (I have another one but my Case Remote wasn’t charged), I could have been standing and holding my (prop) camera at a better angle, etc. But personally speaking? This image is pure gold and I love it – it screams of who I am and what I love to do.

THIS is what photography is for – not technical perfection, but to tell a story. This one is mine.
