Leading Lines are a great way to bring attention to your subject. Whether you are shooting in the city, in nature or indoors.
What Are Leading Lines?
Picture lines in an image that have been framed or positioned to direct a persons eye to your main subject. The lines can be anything from a roadway, to halls, to natural lines in nature.

In the below example, do you see how the hallway walls and lights point toward the subject?
Or this one, where the walkway leads your eye to the Grand Haven lighthouse that I visited?
This tip works in nature too – in the below example note how trees start at the bottom and point toward the sun.
You may not see the lines at first glance but they are worth looking for
While you may not always see leading lines on your first view of a subject, definitely move around, or change your view point to see if you can find any. It’s an amazing way to bring attention to your subject and worth looking for.
Do you have a favorite image you took with leading lines? Or one that you wish you had looked closer to find them? Tell me in the comments!
