How I Chose My Word of the Year for 2025

Happy New Year! What is your word of the year?

As things continue to change in my life, I struggle more and more with how to move forward. As my kids get older and are living their own lives it becomes even more complicated. I know so many people can relate. I have plans and goals for myself, but how do I keep my brain on track? That is the difficult part for me because…..squirrel!!!

What Is a Word of the Year?

For me, the word of the year is a reminder to stay on the right track and focus on positive ways to move forward. It’s something I use in place of resolutions that I will likely never complete. Especially if my goals change.

How Do You Choose a Word of the Year?

Honestly? You can just pick what relates to you, your goals and how you want to move forward. But I had so many goals in different areas that I was looking at that I was having trouble finding one that I could relate to everything.

What I ultimately did was follow the steps in this article by Mindful Living Counseling. It took a bit of time, but really helped me ponder how things have been in the past and how I want to move forward.

Once I completed the questions i had a hard time narrowing the words down, and choosing one that was right for me. This list from The Intention Habit was helpful as well. It gave me more ideas and ways to interpret the words.

What Did I Choose?

Ultimately I chose 2 words (no they didn’t start with F).

My Primary word for 2025 is Explore. I will correlate it with Travel, but also with Exploring who I am, how I want to move forward, what makes me happy. If you don’t know how to move forward, then exploring to find your true self and path is the way to go.

My Secondary word for 2025 is Believe. As I Explore EVERYTHING, I need to believe in myself, and that even with hiccups along the way believe that I am on the right path.

Do You Have A Word of the Year?

While words of the year are typically created prior to the upcoming year, I literally chose mine today. And I know, this post is a little late to the game. But…there are no rules so even it its late choose your word and move forward in 2025.

Let me know in the comments your 2025 word of the year and why you chose it.

Happy New Year!!!
