Freckles

I love freckles in general, but there no freckles that I adore more than the ones on my little guy’s face.  He is not covered with them, but has just the perfect smattering across his cute little nose.

When I saw the Freckles contest on Viewbug, I had to enter.  I immediately took Mister Robby out to the front yard and told him to sit on the sidewalk.  The beautifully engaging smile? That was all him, and it makes the image don’t you think?

Dear Robby

Robby is 8Dear Robby,

Today is the day you turn 8.  8 years of marveling at how smart you are, 8 years of of laughter and snuggles and my heart swelling with pride.

I am so in love with your sweet little face, with your heart, with your sense of humor. With your giant head and even bigger heart, you are a true celebrity – shown time and again by the random people that yell “Hi Robby!” wherever we go, and the many people that love to read your “Robby-isms” when I post them on social media.

2015-06-20_0001Ah yes, the Robby-isms.  There were so many I had to start a Twitter account for you so I could keep a history of them.  And while I may not have documented them all, there is certainly a great sampling there – from the curiously wise statements, to the head scratchers, I love them all.

“I took your freckles off. I’ll give them back if you have money”

“I’m not a grown up, I’m a growing up”

“Gravity should be called Grabity. Cause it’s like a big hand pulling you down.”

“They have claws and don’t like people. They can suck your blood. Sometimes they pinch you. They are called “cramps” and Allie had them once.

“I don’t wanna be a grown up, I just wanna be the boss.”

“If I walk up to my dad and whisper “sphincter” in his ear he will laugh.  Then he will yell at my sister for daring me to do it.”

and my all time favorite:

“It’s not a kiss, it’s a mouth five”

And that all about sums it up – what else can I say?  You make me laugh every day, and when people tell me what a great kid you are, I just smile and agree, and am so thankful that you are mine.

You rock Robby, and I hope you have the best birthday ever!!

Love,

Mom

I SCORED A GOAL by Robby Davis (age 7 years)

Scared to go, but have to go

Parents watching, Coaches watching

Blades on skates as sharp as knives

Bumping into people, bumping into walls

Falling on the ice, Bruises by the second

Time running out

Score a Goal

Just in time

We won

I’m proud of myself

This kid’s love of hockey is brought to you by Chelsea Hockey Association.

Also, I may be biased, but I think my boy may be a literary genius. 🙂

Scruffy in the House

On Friday, Robby’s name was randomly drawn, and it was his turn to bring home the class mascot Scruffy.  Robby tells me that Scruffy is supposed to hang out with him for the weekend, and I am supposed to take pictures.  Sounds good to me.

Robby played in the yard with Scruffy, took him to his hockey game, and then to Grandma’s for an overnight and to hang out with Great Grandma Coco at her 88th birthday party.  I hope Scruffy had fun!!

I’m pretty sure that Scruffy enjoyed Robby’s hockey game.  Here they are with Grandma before the game

Build a Better Castle

In 2010 as we were leaving the beach, Robby looked wistfully back at his sand creation.  Instead of being sad, my wise little guy said to me, “I will build a better castle tomorrow”.

I am choosing to follow his lead.  Regardless of what I may be sad to give up today, tomorrow is always an opportunity to build it BETTER.

My current castle is constructed of images.  I am building it better by concentrating more on photographing things I love, and less of what I don’t.  I am working diligently on monetizing my passion through more than portraits.  I am exploring other complimentary creative pursuits (like this blog).  And I am NOT paying attention to what has been left behind (or mistakes that I have made), but instead what I can do moving forward.

How about you?  What is your castle made of, and how will you build it better tomorrow?
